[STO] Dilithium Tracking 4/18/13

Slide1
The Market has been dramatic as of late! The Top 10 offers have dropped again, and the Z:D Exchange Rate is going back up. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing; the rate is still overall pro-Dilithium, but people buying Dilithium with Zen are getting a little more for their money. Why the relatively sudden change? I’m not sure. I’ve never been able to really figure out a correlation between the Z:D rate and offer volume.
Things that have been suggested to me:
  • A recent Zen sale is affecting pricing.
  • Recent Store sale is affecting pricing.
  • People are finishing Reputation and Fleet projects, resulting in more available Dilithium.
  • Someone has found some new exploit, and is increasing supply of Dilithium.
  • The announcement of cheaper Fleet Projects has altered what people are doing.
  • More people are selling Dilithium because they want to have Zen ready for The Legacy of Romulus.
I’m honestly not sure what to think. But, that’s the point of data: I’ll show you what I’ve got, and hopefully we’ll figure something out.

Update (11:28am HST): As of a few moments ago the Exchange rate was 1:133. Total volume being traded is quite low. So, Dilithium supply isn’t really the issue for the rate becoming more pro-Zen. Now, people buying Dilithium is likewise quite low, which could be more of a factor – the few who are buying want more than they’ve been getting (which makes sense to me). I’m going to guess there might be a lot of offers at lower rates that are outside the top 10, thus are invisible. I’m wondering how many people are saving Zen for The Legacy of Romulus, and how many are trying to blow out all their fleet projects with their Dilithium. Low supply, low demand, and the demand-side aren’t the folks who are willing to pay a premium…

[STO] PVP as War, PVP as Sport.

In the middle of last year, I read a little on a thread about "Combat as Sport versus Combat as War." It was referencing a very long opinion post for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (currently in development). Intriguing as it was, though, is was concerning a tabletop role-playing game. Could it offer anything worth noting about Star Trek Online's PVP? I think so.

[STO] Dilithium Tracker 5/9/13

Won't be long until The Legacy of Romulus is upon us. Moreover, Star Trek: Into Darkness is staring down upon us. All in all, I'd say its great month for Star Trek fans. In the meantime, Star Trek Online is continuing on, the economy is still going along, and Neverwinter (now in open beta) is showing a brand new economy as it tries to find its legs.

[STO] Master Keys without spending a dime.

Cryptic/PWE just unveiled the latest lockbox for Star Trek Online: the Temporal Lock Box . Its time-travel themed, with all sorts of neat ships, consoles, etc., both to be won on random chance and via Lobi. You should really take a look - they're very cool looking . Now, given that Master Keys cost $1.25 each (well, less if you buy 10-packs), you might be hesitant to go after them. You might also be leery of the whole lockbox scheme. And, that's understandable. Goodness knows Pavlovian responses aren't limited to just dogs! So, how to play without paying...?
